Lachlan James Wylie is an Australian director, producer, cinematographer and editor. He was born on the 14th of January, 1999 in Bathurst, Australia. Lachlan grew up in various rural and coastal towns where he discovered his love of making films with his friends. He is best known for his award-winning production company Video Nasty, and his work on the films “The Show Must Go On” (2022), “Archie, Bald” (2022), “Whisky Business” (2023), and the documentary “Alley-Oop” (2023).

Video Nasty

Chief Executive Officer / Filmmaker (2022 – Present)
Started in May of 2022, Video Nasty is an award-winning film production company founded by myself and a crew of incredibly talented SAE students and alumni. We focus specifically on the horror genre, and have so far made two award-winning short films, one of which was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign. We are also currently developing a short documentary.
Whisky Business (Short Film, 2023)
– Director / Producer / Motion Graphics Artist
A comedy horror short film about a baker with an enthusiasm for whisks coming face to face with a cannibalistic escaped convict.
The film was conceptualised, shot and edited in just 48 hours for the TAKE48 film challenge, as part of Sydney Underground Film Festival 2023.

Alley-Oop (Short Documentary, 2023)
– Producer / Post-Production Supervisor / Motion Graphics Artist / Best Boy
A short sports documentary about Josie Taoi, abasketball coach who founded the non-profit platform ‘Promote The Goat’ after a successful campaign to get a basketball scholarship for her brother. The film follows Josie and the work she has been doing to provide opportunities to play basketball for a wide range of people in her community.

Archie, Bald (Short Film, 2022)
– Producer
A horror short film about a man struggling to return to normalcy after his COVID isolation has ended. He begins wondering if he is truly sane as his world falls apart around him, and symptoms return with a nasty vengeance.
The film was funded via a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, with an initial funding goal of $600 which was more than tripled, receiving over $2000. While not yet publicly released, it has also had a successful film festival run, receiving several nominations/awards.

The Show Must Go On (Short Film, 2022)

A comedy horror short film about a stage actress and her pushover boyfriend, who must cover up their murder of the lead actor in a stage show about to start.
The film was conceptualised, shot and edited in just 48 hours for the TAKE48 film challenge, as part of Sydney Underground Film Festival 2022.

Bachelor of Film (2021 – Present)
Studying a bachelor of film degree, learning in depth the process of both pre and post-production of film and television.
Some skills I have learned so far are cinematography, editing on Adobe Premiere Pro, motion graphics on Adobe After Effects, directing/producing, documentary filmmaking, writing for the screen, and client-based commercial work. I have also studied business in the creative media industry for my elective class.

A drama short film about a grieving man trying to live out the memories of a past wedding anniversary.

In 2017 I was provided the opportunity to visit both Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Giant Dwarf’s offices for work experience. My experience was on location, in the office, and on set.
